Headwaters Conservation Area is located in the northeast corner of Westport (187 Blossom Road). This forested preserve draws its name from the fact that it is the headwaters of Bread and Cheese Brook, a beautiful cold water stream that feeds the Noquochoke River and the East Branch of the Westport River. Headwaters is WLCT’s largest Destination Property, and boasts an impressive array of hiking trails that traverse hardwood forests, streamside natural communities, areas of early successional shrubland and an impressive white pine stand a quarter mile in from the parking lot. These diverse habitats provide excellent bird watching opportunities. Small overgrown fields in the central part of the preserve are clear indicators that portions of the property were farmed in the recent past. Acquisition of these lands was made possible by funding and organization assistance of the Trustees of Reservations, Town of Westport Community Preservation Fund, Massachusetts Waterfowlers, Inc and private supporters.
