The Westport Land Conservation Trust has successfully raised the funds to preserve 18 acres within the Cockeast Pond Watershed, land that is part of one of the largest remaining unprotected parcels in the Harbor.
We are extremely grateful for the neighbors and supporters who made this acquisition and conservation possible:
Anonymous (2), Julie & Mark Atwood, Caleb Barnum, Hanna Bartlett, Mary Berg, Charlene & Terrance Connolly, Carey & Cliff Cort, Dana & Adam Guild, Ann Higgins, Lionel Kaliff, Pam & David Maher, Nancy & Steve McGuiness, Allison & Eric Oishi, Hope Sterling & Bob Collins, Maggie & Don Swift, Bethany & Tim Vanech, Sue & Amir Viskin, Nancy & Jim Whitin and the Richmond Pond/Cockeast Watershed Fund.
Located off of River Road on the interior, the property is in proximity to over 150 acres of conserved land including WLCT’s Old Harbor Wildlife Refuge.

The entirety of the 18 acres is identified as BioMap Core Habitat and Critical Natural Landscape, due to its proximity to a large area of contiguous undeveloped land. The woodlot is comprised primarily of upland forest with pockets of shrubland and no identifiable wetland. The landscape is located within the Cockeast Pond Watershed and is one of the largest remaining unprotected parcels in the watershed.
The woodlot will be owned by WLCT and utilized for passive public use, with access in the immediate future for abutters, as there will be no parking. A long-term effort will be made to connect the property to the Old Harbor Wildlife Refuge.
