Meet James Cassell (left) and Jacob Walz (right), Westport Land Conservation Trust’s (WLCT) 2018 outreach and stewardship summer interns. You’ll be seeing James and Jacob on the trails over the next two months thanks, in part, to BayCoast Bank’s generous sponsorship. This is the fourth consecutive year BayCoast Bank and WLCT have partnered to foster Westport’s next generation of environmental leaders.
Why did you get involved with WLCT and what is the most transferable skill you’ve learned at the land trust?
James: “I applied to WLCT’s outreach and stewardship summer internship because I love being outside. I feel so lucky to be able to work with nature and help my local environment and community. I’m grateful for the critical thinking and problem solving skills this internship requires to complete routine tasks–skills that are applicable in school and in daily life.”
James Cassell of Dartmouth is a Tufts University class of 2020 Biochemistry major.
What has been your favorite aspect of interning for WLCT and why?
Jacob: “My favorite aspect of WLCT’s outreach and stewardship summer internship is working with the Tuesday Trail Team. It’s a close knit and compassionate group of volunteers that meet up every Tuesday morning to work on anything from building bridges to planting trees! It’s a really fun group of people to be around.”
Jacob Walz of Westport is an Assumption College class of 2021 Human Services and Rehabilitation Major and Management Minor.
