Annual Fund donor Ann Squire has supported the work of Westport Land Conservation Trust for many years. In October, Ann’s small business, Country Woolens, matched donations made to the Children’s Nature Discovery Area at Westport Woods. These gifts will directly connect preschool age children in Westport with nature. Ann’s passion for her community and desire for future generations to connect with nature motivate her support for this project.

Thank you, Ann!

What do you love about Westport?

“The casual outside life, the friendliness of the people here, the feeling of community.”

Your store, Country Woolens, specializes in quality outdoor goods. Why do you think it is so important to spend time in nature?

“I think it’s just so good for the soul and the body. It makes a person feel so much better to be outside. It does something for the mind that’s almost spiritual. You can just feel the stress leave you.”

Why do you support land conservation efforts in town?

“I want to see open areas – that’s such a large part of Westport. As someone who grew up here, I can see the changes from when I was a child. I want to protect that rural part that makes Westport special.”

What is one of your favorite outdoor spots in Westport?

“Anywhere by the water. I love walking in the woods along the river.”
