The Land Trust Tuesday Trail Team hard at work as they complete a handrail for the newly installed granite steps at the Dunham’s Brook Conservation Area parking lot.

Last year the Westport Land Conservation Trust Stewardship Committee identified and prioritized more than 50 separate deferred maintenance and capital improvement projects. Some of the highest ranking projects were surrounding parking and ease with which visitors could access trailheads. This summer the Stewardship Program set about completing three such trailhead improvement projects: 1) expanding the Dunham’s Brook Conservation Area parking lot; 2) opening a barway on a trail difficult to traverse just beyond the Herb Hadfield Conservation Area Adamsville Road trailhead; 3)  completing a finalized kiosk sign the Westport Woods Conservation Park.

Here’s a look at these three public access improvment projects in photos:

We worked with R. Lebreux and Son to expand the Dunham’s Brook Conservation Area parking area and install granite steps to the kiosk.

We worked with R. Lebreux and Son to also open the barway on the main trail into the Herb Hadfield Conservation Area from Adamsville Road.

We are working with Medium Studio to finalize our Westport Woods Conservation Park Kiosk display which will become the main interface for members of the public when they first arrive at the park.
