To the Westport Community,

Longer days and warm sunshine have arrived as we enter the summer season. It is a time for exploration and relaxation in the great outdoors. And, I must admit, Westport is the best place to do it. Westport has been a part of my life for over 50 years. We are thrilled when our daughter’s and son’s families come to visit in the summer. They love working and exploring our farm where we raise grass-fed, organic-certified Angus beef. Preserving the farm through the APR program was a rewarding experience and ensures that not only our family will enjoy it forever, but generations in our community will have access to locally produced food.

Since 2013 I have had the great pleasure of serving on the WLCT Board of Directors and am now thrilled to serve as WLCT’s President. From 2016-2021, I chaired the 1,000-acre campaign which was a transformative period for WLCT. Witnessing the community’s enthusiasm for its agricultural heritage, ecological resources, and open space was an honor. I am excited to continue that momentum in the next three years as President keeping pace with our preservation efforts, but also offering new opportunities to connect to the land through programs and events. Working with YOU, our community, is the best part!

In 2022, WLCT has launched a new strategic plan to Preserve, Connect, Steward and Grow. Our visitors, volunteers, donors and community are at the heart of this plan. We hope you will join us in the effort to preserve more, connect and learn from the land, exhibit exemplary stewardship on the land, and grow together outdoors. To learn more about our plan, visit here.

As a family, we strive to get out and explore as often as possible. So, I hope we will see you on the land walking WLCT’s 15+ miles of trails or perhaps visiting the children’s discovery garden at Westport Woods. Together, we’ll preserve the best of Westport and have fun doing it. From my family to yours, have a safe and sunny summer season.

Sincerely,

Tina Schmid
