Dear Westport Community,
Westport is a beautiful place in the fall. Walks in the forest, exploring the scenic views across open land, celebrating the season’s harvest, and late season boat rides. It’s easy to take for granted the natural and agricultural resources that surround us in Westport. For 50 years the Westport Land Conservation Trust (WLCT), has focused on preserving these resources, for our community now and for the benefit of our community into the future. This work over the last 50 years has created a legacy: 5,100 acres of preserved open space, scenic vistas and water resources, over 15 miles of trails, and over 2,000 acres of preserved working farmland. By donating to WLCT’s Annual Fund, you are investing in Westport’s legacy.
As we plan for the next 50 years, WLCT is focusing on four main pillars of our mission: preserve, steward, connect, and grow. This year we pursued projects connected to those pillars, including:
- 225 acres to be preserved, including the 45-acre Berry Hill Farm, which will remain working farmland and be sold at an affordable price to a farm family in 2023
- A new accessible trail and outdoor classroom at Westport Wood Conservation Park
- Improved parking area and trail entrance at Noquochoke Conservation Area
- Habitat improvement projects to improve the water quality at Angeline and Dunham’s brooks
- New opportunities for all people to connect with the land through the Learning Center at Westport Woods, pop-up tent events at WLCT properties, free workshops, and partnerships with other organizations to inspire the next generation of Westport’s stewards
Projects like these are only possible because of the ongoing annual support from donors like you. You make it possible for WLCT to continue preserving Westport’s unique rural landscape, and to expand the community of people who care about these special resources.
Please make a gift today to WLCT’s Annual Fund and become a part of Westport’s enduring legacy of open space and farmland.
Sincerely,
Tina Schmid
Board President
