This year was filled with learning and exploring around Westport. The most rewarding part of 2022 was working with young people, especially through our outdoor educational Pop-up tents. It is so much fun watching their imaginations run wild as they explore the children’s garden, digging through the raised beds looking for worms and grubs. Or watching eyes light up during the vernal pool exploration as they learned about all the microscopic life that reside in these small puddles in the woods.
Part of WLCT’s mission is to inspire the next generation of conservationists, to help develop a sense of appreciation and respect for nature, and lay the foundation for a lifetime of learning and exploration. While working to inspire the next generation, I was surprised to realize they were the ones inspiring me all along.
