What better way to celebrate earth day than planting native trees and shrubs?  This year WLCT has partnered up with One Tree Planted to throw a planting party on Tuesday April 18th and we are inviting everyone in Westport and the South Coast to come join us.  One Tree Planted is a non-profit based out of Vermont that funds various planting projects throughout the country ranging from large reforestations to small community planting events like the one we are hosting.

We will be establishing a mixed border of native drought tolerant trees and shrubs in the lower entry fields of our Dunham’s Brook property.  This will provide food and habitat for birds and mammals as well as create a buffer to the abutting property.  Species like Staghorn Sumac, Inkberry, Bayberry and Eastern Red Cedar will create the backbone of the planting with other species such as Sweet Fern and Beach Plum filling in the gaps.

If you would like to join us please sign up through the link below and come help us celebrate Earth Day in style.  The event will be held April 18th at Dunham’s Brook located at 1520 Main Rd, Westport MA, 02790 and will run from 9am-Noon.  All participants will receive a t-shirt and water/tools will be provided.  Be sure to bring your gloves, sunscreen/bug spray, snacks and be sure to wear appropriate footwear.  You can email nate@westportlandtrust.org with any questions.
