As I take time to reflect on 2024, I am awed by the community’s enthusiasm and support for conservation. What a year it was for land preservation–together we brought a generational land preservation project to reality!
In addition, more and more of you deepened your connection to the land through public programs, events, and workshops, and of course, out on the trails.
Together, our impact was significant:
- Conserving over 200 new acres abutting Westport Woods to be opened to the public in the near future! (Huge thank you to the Town of Westport and the Trustees for being integral partners)
- Preserving 32 acres of prime farmland for continued working agricultural off Mouse Mill Road
- Welcoming over 2,200 visitors to public programs, events, and workshops on properties all across Westport
- Executing an ambitious stewardship agenda with a new learning center garden, continued habitat restoration over 20+ acres, and building/replacing over 1,000 feet of bog-bridging all made possible with over 2,500 hours of Trail Team volunteer service
With you, and many members of this community, tens of thousands of people enjoyed and explored Westport in 2024!
We are excited to welcome 2025 and build on the momentum of 2024. Each year, your enthusiasm inspires us to raise the bar for conservation and community. In 2025 we will:
- Officially launch our new website for greater interactivity, sharing our many stories, and inspire new community members to join the mission
- Blaze new trails at Westport Woods and improve the trail experience all across Town
- Install new interpretive signs at Dunham’s Brook, Herb Hadfield, Mill Pond, and Westport Woods illustrating and narrating key features of these special places
- Continue strategic land preservation to conserve vital habitat, open lands for the public, and keep working farmland active for the agricultural community
Westport is a special place, and YOU, our community is what makes it most special! We hope to continue to see you on the trails, attending programs, volunteering, and thank you so much for your generous support.
Interested in deepening your connection further? We love our volunteers! In addition to our Tuesday Trail Team (no need to show up every week, no experience necessary), we welcome trail monitors, large event volunteers for tabling or parking, program and office help.
