“Making” Photographs in Westport Fields and Woods
A SERIES OF THREE NATURE photography workshops in October where the emphasis is on you – not your camera – and on doing, not thinking about it, or listening to a long lecture. Workshops run from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM on Thursday, October 3rd, 10th and 18th.
As Ansel Adams famously said: “You don’t take a photograph, you make it.” We will practice ways to see photographs where others might not. We’ll “make” photographs by applying basic “rules” of composition to photo ops you might otherwise walk past.
This is a real-world experience. You will learn (or review) a simple concept each week, then apply it in the field during an hour-and-a-half photo prowl in woods and meadow. Finally, you will share and reflect on your work online and see how others approached the same project. It’s all about seeing – seeing light, seeing forms, seeing meaningful patterns – and making an image that helps others to see what you saw. You are welcome to attend regardless of experience level, and any camera will do – phone, point and shoot, or DSLR!
