On April 7th , the Westport Land Conservation Trust (WLCT) acquired the second of two recent parcels adjacent to Westport Woods Conservation Park. These parcels comprise 30 acres of pristine, rare species habitat and create an important connection to currently owned WLCT parcels.
With the addition of these properties, Westport Woods now conserves over 140 acres north of Adamsville Road (see map below). Preliminary mapping estimates an additional 3 miles of trails through upland forest and wetlands. The variety of habitat will create new opportunities to learn about our natural heritage.
Thanks to the generosity of our philanthropic partners, WLCT was able to move quickly when these parcels became available. We’re looking forward to building the first new trails this fall, with more to come in 2024!
Westport Woods was first established in 2018 with the purchase of the old St. Vincent de Paul Camp. WLCT raised over $3 million dollars from the Town of Westport, State of Massachusetts EEA, and more than 160 generous families in our community. Westport Woods has become a community park for all to enjoy and a hub for connecting with nature. New programs and partnerships highlight the property’s unique characteristics, and connect people to Westport’s exceptional landscape. With this expansion, we continue to grow our efforts to preserve, steward and connect to the best of Westport!
