Thanks to a generous grant from the Westport Cultural Council and the Helen E Ellis Trust, the Westport Land Conservation Trust encouraged local explorers to get outside and explore Westport!
We placed 10 Trail Explorers signs on our 10 land-based public properties. Each sign included a letter. Put all the letters together to create a phrase…and win an Explorers Backpack of your own!
One Trail Explorer wrote, “Before I give you the phrase my husband and I figured out, I want to say this was FANTASTIC! It was a brilliant idea and it was so much fun. We got to explore trails we didn’t even know existed!”
Designed to encourage exploration in our own backyard, we hoped to draw walkers to all of our properties. Each property has its own charm and unique history and habitat. The Trail Explorers program provides an opportunity to learn more about each property.
2025 Trail Explorers programs have already begun with “Cocoa Walks,” short, after-work walks with time to meet other walkers over cocoa at the end.
The Trail Explorers program is supported in part by a grant from the Westport Cultural Council Community Grants, a local agency supported by the Helen E. Ellis Charitable Trust administered by the Bank of America.
