The nights are beginning to get a little bit cooler! As we approach the final weeks of summer, we are looking ahead to some of the changes that fall brings us.
Nature Tells A Story
We’ll be looking for clues of autumn’s approach at Mill Pond with our Trail Scavenger Hunt.
Among the signs of change at this property is a newly planted food forest – let’s see what’s growing in the meadow!

As our characteristic bird of prey, the Osprey, takes wing for southern climates, we’ll also observe the migrations of other raptors, some of whom travel as far south as Cape Horn.
We’ll be on the lookout for these and others during our Raptor Migration Walk & Talk!

Each Season A New Chapter
Wednesday afternoons in September we’ll be reading STEM Stories for Small Scientists, encouraging curiosity and inspiration in the world around us. At these afternoon programs for young children, we’ll read story and take walk to share our experiences.

Westport boasts several different habitats, all of which can be experienced on WLCT’s trails, from White Pine forests at Headwaters and Noquochoke to Oak-Holly and wetland forests at Westport Woods and Old Harbor. Or maybe you want to walk through the restored grass habitats at Dunham’s Brook, or take a final summer boat ride to the Let–wherever you go, you’ll see the signs of the changing season.
Looking for more information about the what we can expect as the season changes? The Learning Center at Westport Woods is open Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm.
As always, these programs and more can be found on our WLCT Events Page.
