Andy Moerlein’s Closing Talk

The Westport Cultural Council is pleased to announce its third of three summer Westport Artist in Residence Program Closing Talks. On Thursday August 19th at 6 PM, artist in residence Andy Moerlein will be speaking at the DeDee Shattuck Gallery about his career as an artist and his focus on the landscape and stones. For his residency Moerlein created Reverence, a sapling structure that mimics the landscape and hints at the powerful glaciers that have ground hard edges into rolling contours and hauled boulders thousands of miles. Using glacier eratics as inspiration, Moerlein has also fabricated handmade ‘rox’ out of mixed media and installed these startling objects in unexpected places about the Westport Land Conservation Park at 573 Adamsville Road. This talk will be a lively recapitulation of the concepts and process of Moerlein’s Artist in Residence. This presentation is designed for all ages.

Advance registration is not required for Moerlein’s Closing Talk. The Dedee Shattuck Galley is located at 1 Partner’s Lane, Westport MA 02790.

If you cannot make a Thursday night, there will be a Curator’s Walk with Merri Cyr and Andy Moerlein in conversation about all three artists work on site. 11 am Saturday August 21st at 573 Adamsville Road, Westport MA 02790. If you are curious about how an Artist in Residence Program fits the Land Trust and how the artists installations respond to a particular place, or perhaps are curious about particular works on the grounds, this is a casual opportunity to learn more about this ambitious residency program. Please walk with us.
