Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop

Join Westport Land Conservation Trust (WLCT) from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday, March 7th for an introductory workshop on winter fruit tree management at the Mill Pond Conservation Area micro-orchard located at 62 Reed Road in Westport, Massachusetts.

Opened in 2015, the Mill Pond Conservation Area micro-orchard and garden park is an experiment in cultivating an all-organic, edible landscape. Designed by Westport resident and 2010 National Olmsted Scholar Emily Vogler, the garden park is an intersection of Westport’s agricultural heritage and modern day foraging that encourages visitors to ask the question: “should I eat this?” In recent years WLCT has worked in partnership with wild foods enthusiast, Russ Cohen, to introduce more than a dozen new species of native edible plant including Jerusalem artichoke and butternut hickory.

This workshop is free and open to the public. Keys to pruning techniques and winter pest management will be provided. To register for this workshop, please email Brendan@WestportLandTrust.org. Space is limited to ten participants. Participants are encouraged to bring a sharp pair of hand clippers if they wish to take part in the pruning.
