Getting Ready for Osprey
March marks the return of one of the most identifiable species of the South Coast, the Osprey. As we prepare for the return of this remarkable bird, we invite you to join us for an educational event celebrating the magnificent “Fish Hawk!” We will explore the fascinating world of these raptors through a discussion of their life cycle, migration patterns, nesting behavior and an exploration of their place in our ecosystem. Where can we find these creatures? What challenges do they face? How can we help to protect them? These and other questions will be posed and answered as we get ready for the Osprey!
Westport Land Conservation Trust is proud to partner with the Lloyd Center’s Hamza Malik, PhD, Associate Director of Science Education Research. Dr. Malik is a teacher and research fellow at the Lloyd Center for the Environment, and through his work there has explored conservation techniques and observed the behaviors of the Osprey right in our own backyard. His work encourages youth to interact with the natural world around us, and his efforts with the Lloyd Center allow participants to deepen their understanding of the magnificent birds that make Westport their home for three seasons out of the year.
