Managing Westport’s Changing Forests

Forester and landowner Rob Bryan takes us for a walk on actively managed family land that is protected by a conservation restriction held by WLCT.

In this 2+ mile walk, we’ll look at evidence of how past land use and natural disturbances have shaped the forest and discuss the role that forestry can play in providing wildlife habitat for a suite of focal species while making forests more resilient in the face of invasive plants, exotic insects, deer browsing, and climate change. Rob will also discuss issues related to carbon storage and sequestration in New England’s forests and how managed forests can provide both carbon benefits and local forest products that we all use.
