WLCT Presents The Spindle Rock River Rats

Westport Land Conservation Trust is pleased to present the music of the Spindle Rock River Rats at our Westport Woods Conservation Park on Friday, September 15 at 6pm.

Bring a picnic, a lawn chair, and something nice to drink, and join us at the meadow of Westport Woods for an evening of outdoor beauty, merry music, and fun in the park. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged, and tickets to support the artists are on a sliding scale of $5-10 donation.

About the artist:

The Spindle Rock River Rats play for pure enjoyment – and their performances show it. The band started in 1999 when a group of Westport, Massachusetts musicians played for the wedding of the daughter of one of the members, Polly Gardner. They had such a good time, they decided to keep playing. Over the years, the band has performed at private parties, celebrations, farmers markets, weddings, yacht club events and for many nonprofit organizations. The group has performed at the Seaman’s Bethel in New Bedford, the Spindle Rock Club on the Westport River, and has recorded a CD of their favorite songs. Their repertoire is a great blend of vocals and instrumentals, and includes bluegrass, gospel, fiddle tunes, sea shanties, folk and blues.

Musicians include “Den Mother” Polly Gardner (upright bass), Woody Underwood (fiddle & guitar), Borden Snow (banjo & guitar), Brad Jenkins (banjo), Dock Murdock (dobro), Hope Swift (mandolin & guitar), Annamoon VanErp (fiddle), and Juergen Hallemeier (accordion). Whether it’s four or five Rats or the whole gang, their music livens up any gathering.
