Why did you get involved with WLCT?
“I have traveled a great deal in Concord,” said Henry Thoreau. I want to travel a great deal in Westport and the WLCT makes that possible. What’s more, I want to do what I can to make others aware of how much there is in our own back yard and WLCT grows our “back yard” so it includes multiple meadows, streams, ponds and woods. My camera encourages me to look closer and to share what I find with others, hopefully encouraging them to get out and “travel a great deal” – in Westport.
What are you most thankful for this year?
I have been fortunate in my personal and professional life to have an opportunity to learn and practice communications in many of the different media available to us. While I am primarily a writer, I recognize how essential sight is to us and so enjoy trying to see, capture, and share a world that I frequently find hard to express in words.
My serious interest in photography began in 1954 when I photographed Hurricane Carol and sold the pictures in sets to neighbors, earning enough to buy my first 35mm camera. I used my pictures primarily to supplement my freelance magazine writing, but in the last few years have focused on nature photography for the joy of doing it, sharing it on Facebook, and teaching others. I am deeply thankful for the opportunities and encouragement I’ve received from WLCT staff and am delighted some of my pictures have found a wider audience through WLCT publications.
