2026 Board Candidate: Greg Barr

We ask each board candidate to tell us what drew them to Westport, to land preservation, and to WLCT.

What makes Westport special?

Westport is truly a special place.  I have been coming here since college, and I think the mix of open land, coastline, and small-town character makes it a place people feel connected to and want to protect.

Do you have a favorite spot?

I live close to Richmond Pond and love to hike through the trail there.  And my wife and I love to hike and run in Westport Woods. We’re really excited about the expansion of the trail system there thanks to the recent acquisitions.

How did I become involved with WLCT?

I became involved through my interest in preserving farmland and in creating opportunities for the next generation of farmers in town to be able to afford a farm and make a decent living farming in Westport.  I supported a number of the Land Trust’s initiatives in this area.  From there I joined the Land Preservation Committee.

Why conservation?

Conservation helps protect the landscapes and habitats that define Westport. It ensures these spaces remain accessible and intact for future generations while preserving the town’s character.  Once these parcels are developed, they are gone forever.
