Affectionately known as the Timberdoodle, American Woodcocks are one of Westport’s more unusual seasonal residents. Unlike many species of shorebird, the American Woodcock prefers upland forests over sandy beaches and dines primarily on earthworms.
Join Executive Director, Ryan Mann, on a Thursday evening hike at the Herb Hadfield Conservation Area as we look and listen for the courtship flights of male American Woodcocks. Please dress for the conditions and prepare to walk several miles.
