Volunteer Appreciation

The Heartbeat of Our Work

One of the many benefits of working in a small town is the tremendous energy the residents bring to their community. This week is National Volunteer week, and there is no better time to recognize the incredible group of volunteers that help WLCT serve the community. Our trail team, office volunteers, governance volunteers, and community partners provide the heartbeat of our work. This post is a dedication to the countless hours and boundless energy these folks bring to our community.

Time and Energy of a Full-Time Employee

WLCT’s Tuesday Trail Team meet every week for 2-3 hours, focusing on all sorts of land projects. The team is comprised of residents from all across Town who bring a wealth of experience in many different fields of work. Two weeks ago this crew planted hundreds of new perennial fruit crops at Snell Creek, last fall they designed and constructed new bridges at Herb Hadfield Conservation Area, and each week they focus on property care that improves the outdoor experience for all to explore. Trail Team’s time and energy are equal to a full-time employee. We are beyond grateful for the 30+ people come on a regular basis.

Additional, Vital Support

Trail team is just one component of the volunteer crew. We also have volunteers who support work in the office, lead our various committees focusing on the core pillars of WLCT’s work, photographers who offer their expertise and art, and so many more!

I am amazed at the generous offerings of their time and enthusiasm. These community members exemplify what it means to be a connected and caring member of a town.

The People Component

In addition to these volunteers, we have many community partners who offer their expertise in support of the mission including local small businesses and town officials who collaborate to achieve various initiatives desired by residents. This shout-out is for you.

My favorite part of the work we do is the people component. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for folks in town through conservation, and volunteers are critical in accomplishing this goal. On behalf of our staff team, we are always in awe of your energy and we THANK YOU, a million times over!
