Join us and fill your October with a bevy of activities around Westport as we explore new properties and uncover some of the gems in our favorite conservation areas, plus so much more. Check out these events:

Through the Seasons: Autumn Walk will take us on our last stroll of our seasonal series exploring Dunham’s Brook Conservation Area. Over this past year, we have watched the meadows warm and grow, welcoming wildflowers and wildlife, bringing in wave after wave of migratory birds and offering a wonder of treasures. Join us this weekend as we take one last look of the year at this gem of a landscape.

A Farewell to Pollinators will survey the last of the pollinating insects having their feast on the flowers at our new garden at the Kirby House. We’ll consider the wonderful array of plant life making up this pollinating buffet and discuss the hibernating practices of those pollinators that stick around on this short walk at Westport Woods.

Bats Before Bedtime is timely celebration of the unique and flying mammals that take flight in the evening, making a meal of those pesky insects and creating an aerial delight. We’ll have an engaging, interactive presentation for adults and a great craft for the kids, so this is fun for the whole family.

Campfire Tales of the Weird and Wild will close out the month with a night of thrills and chills around the campfire. Join us as we tell tales of mystery from the natural world, from bats to beetles and spooky tales from the environment. With s’mores to sweeten to evening and a fire to warm the chilly evening this event is fun for all.

Ongoing Events in October

Wander Over in the Meadow, an interactive StoryWalk now in place in the Discovery Garden at Westport Woods. A copy of the book is also in the Learning Center, if you want to read it before or after your walk!

October, especially as the nights get cooler and leaves really start to turn, is a fantastic time to explore the short trails at Forge Pond and Brookside Conservation Areas. Both have extensive water features where a variety of water birds gather and both show off their fall colors in the extreme!

Keep an eye on our events page for even more fun and engaging events around our properties, and see you on the trails!
